Texas Hog Hunting

RIFLE, PISTOL AND BOW HUNTING

Karankawa Plains hunts on 20K acres of Columbia Bottomland and timber, on the upper Texas gulf coast prairies at Pierce Ranch, in Wharton County.

2007-08 Season Predictions

Predictions for the season are outstanding.  Hogs love water and will never find themselves to far from it.  Due to the current drought, we expect the hogs to concentrate around any permanent sources of water.  Pierce Ranch has 7 miles of Colorado River on its eastern boundary, two major creeks, two large sloughs, several ponds, miles of irrigation canals, and ~5K acres of flooded rice fields -- the largest rice farm in Texas. This summer we have seen them concentrate on the Ranch and expect this to continue as farmers run hogs off of adjacent properties.

The Hunt

Winter and Spring hog hunting offers baited hunts from blinds, tree stands and tripods in the river bottoms and hardwood timber. Rotating hunters between 25 + locations provides optimal sightings and kill percentages. Hunting stands are baited heavily and regularly during the season to establish feeding patterns. Guides continually check these locations to make certain they are placed in the best locations possible.

Although we do not guarantee a kill, our success ratio is excellent. Guides will transport you to and from the stands and will help in field dressing your game. Guides will take care of  skinning and packing game in your cooler for an additional price. Further processing is the responsibility of the hunter. We offer full service lodge hunts, camp hunts and day hunts. We can accommodate rifle, pistol, bow and shotgun hunters. Season starts in November and ends in March.

**Guides can take care of field dressing, skinning, and packaging the hogs in your cooler for an additional price.  Further processing will be the responsibility of the hunter.

**Note: There is NO KILL FEE! Check price listing for guide processing fee. There is no additional charge if the hunter processes hogs.
